Comp25: Excel - Charting the Five-Year Study Summary

Learning Objectives

  1. To enter, analyze, and visualize your company's financials using Excel.
  2. To report that data, in graphical form, to your investors.

Important

You cannot begin this assignment until you have completed the Five-Year Study assignment.

Steps to Take

  1. Open the Five-Year Study.xls workbook you recently created and save it as charts.xls Create three charts as instructed below:
  2. Locate your Summary worksheet that has the linked formulas for the past five years.
  3. Create a clustered column chart that graphs the income from January to December for each of your departments.  Be sure to put the chart on it's own sheet tab and name the sheet tab ColumnChart.
  4. Customize the chart so that it is unique and matches the styles and formatting of your company/website.  You will be graded on your creativity and style.

  5. Create a stacked line chart that graphs the Net Profits from January to December from the Summary Worksheet. Be sure to put the chart on it's own sheet tab and name the sheet tab LineChart.
  6. Customize the column chart so that it is unique and matches the styles and formatting of your company/website.


  7. Create a pie chart that graphs only the total income by department from the Summary worksheet .  Be sure to put the chart on it's own sheet tab and name the sheet tab PieChart.
  8. Add data labels to your pie chart so that the percent of each pie wedge is displayed.  (See sample below)
  9. Customize the column so that it is unique and matches the styles and formatting of your company/website.


  10. Save this charts.xls to your web-docs location and link it to your Investor Relations page
    1. Note: You are not saving it as a web-page -- you are linking the entire Excel file to the site
    2. Create a new row in your Investor Relations table and add an <A HREF> tag that links charts.xls to this page:

    3. Be sure to write a description of this chart in your table.
  11. Be sure to test your links from a computer other than your own to be sure it works. Correct any Forbidden messages that might arise
  12. Upload charts.xls to Blackboard to insure your work was completed on time.
