New Mobile Base Design Details

This page is being created as the design for the new mobile base proceeds. It will be done chronologically in the order of construction, so you'll always need to go to the bottom to see the most recent stuff (although I'll try to add in links to the most recent additions).

The first parts to be machined were the three steering shaft housings. Each was cut into a 3" long section from a piece of 1.75" by 3" rectangular aluminum tubing with 0.125" think walls. The section was positioned in a 4-jaw chuck and the holes for both shaft bearings were cut. Care must be taken to be sure both holes are aligned as precisely as possible so that the shafts not only fit into the bearing without binding but also will be easy to align in parallel later when the housing are attached to the chassis frame.
