Tau Beta Pi was founded at Lehigh University in 1885 to recognize students of engineering
disciplines who exhibited outstanding scholarship and character. There are currently 219
collegiate chapters of Tau Beta Pi with over 415 000 initiated members. The
National Headquarters
are located at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
The California Phi chapter of Tau Beta Pi was established at the
University of the Pacific on March 5, 1988 as the 201st
chapter of the society. We are a part of District 15, which includes California and Nevada and
is currently the largest of the fifteen districts.
Our chapter and its members have received several awards since the chapter was installed. At
this year's National Convention, we received a Chapter Projects Award.
Effective on 1998 November 17
Our chapter, in accordance with the Constitution and Bylaws of the organization,invites those in the academic top eighth of the junior class and top fifth of thesenior class of the UOP School of Engineering to be considered for membership.An initiation of
new members
is held each fall and spring.
