DESCRIPTION OR INDEX TO ATTACHED DESCRIPTION:

I. General Description:
Two new members were honored by the chapter at the spring initiation and banquet. The initiation ceremony was held in an auditorium-style classroom on campus, and the banquet was held at a local pizza place. District Director Sherry Jennings-King attended the ceremony (and conveniently locked her keys in her car in the process).

II. Purpose & Relationship to Objectives of TBPi:
The initiation served to welcome the new members into the organization, and the banquet gave us a chance to celebrate their accomplishments.

III. Organization & Administration: in conjunction with another group? No
The officers selected the initiation team and made arrangements for the ceremony and banquet.

IV. Cost & Personnel Requirements:
Members of the chapter, along with Sherry Jennings-King, served as the initiation team. Vice President Kevin Long was in charge of the details of the initiation and the equipment. Attendees of the banquet were asked to pay $5 towards the cost of the meal. Along with the $20 chapter dues collected from the new initiates, this contribution covered the cost of the food.

V. Special Problems:
Due to a changes in the date of the Initiation, we were left with few choices about where to hold the event. We ended up using a room in the Z building on campus, which had been used for the prior spring's Initiation. None of the current officers had been present at that Initiation, and we were not able to get into the room to check it until a few hours before the event. When we arrived we found that the light switches were broken, preventing us from completely darkening the room. We also found that a large podium/overhead projector in the front center of the room was bolted down and would not move. We were able to procure tables but had to use desks as chairs for the Initiation team. We would not recommend the use of this room to future officers. Also, we were unable to reach one of the initiates before the ceremony, and he did not show up. We are hoping to have him initiated at next semester's ceremony.

VI. Over-all Evaluation/Results (Be specific):
In the future, we suggest that the room be checked out well ahead of time, with careful and early planning in selecting the room. It is important to take into account the possibility of daylight entering the room during the ceremony, as several sites on campus have natural lighting which may interfere with the parts of the ceremony which call for darkness.
