The Beatles Tribute Night was a celebration of the Beatles’ timeless music put on by a talented group of University of the Pacific students. The concert was held on the Pacific campus in The Summit on November 29, 2007. Hunter Steers kicked off the evening with a hand-full of acoustic songs which he livened up with harmonica, in a very Bob Dylan-esc fashion. The crowd loved his mellow, yet active stage presence and was eager for more as Hunter wrapped up his set.

Next up was And Now…, a band led by Sawyer James. They powered through a short, but sweet set of songs ranging from Blackbird to Helter Skelter, which showed their control of dynamics as a band. To calm it down a bit, Isaac Lopez of Awesome: The Band performed a song on ukulele and followed that up with Rocky Raccoon, using his ability to generate humorous voices fully. Then Dave Vanoli performed a couple acoustic songs, including “Working Class Hero” by John Lennon, which was definitely an audience favorite. Alida, consisting of Dave Vanoli, Brad Roan and Nick Gillett followed with an electrifying performance that really got the crowd going.

This set the stage for the headliners, Avon Union, who opened with “I Want You, She’s So Heavy” to many hoots and hollers from the enthused audience. The night closed with the classic “Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds”, which nearly everyone sang along to while many also danced. The show was an excellent nod to one of the greatest bands of all of time and it was apparent that the crowd of well over 100, made up of mostly Pacific students, truly enjoyed the experience.
