Service
Each
semester, the ladies of Phi Chapter participate in a number of different
service projects that will help out the community. Last year we had a sports
day with the children from Mary Graham's Children Shelter and had a fun day in
the park, playing kickball and other fun games. Members also help the community
by giving blood, reading for children or visiting retirement homes. Last
semester, our car wash raised over $400 that we were able to donate to CASA! We even washed Semisonic's tour bus!
Once
a year we put on an annual event in order to raise money for Kappa Alpha
Theta's official national philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates, or
CASA. CASA was created in 1982 with the purpose of giving children a voice
while they are stuck in the court system. They work to ensure safe, permanent
homes for all children.
Our
annual philanthropy event is Rock-the-CASA, which will be held on September 28,
2001 from 4:30 pm until 8:30 pm on Brookside field. This is a Battle of the
Bands competition where four local bands perform in order to raise money for
CASA. Crypt Orchid, Sandwich Mafia, Anniston and Section H will be competing. Over $1100 was raised from this event last year, all of which we were
able to donate to our local CASA.
