Policy
Theta Chi adheres to a strict "no hazing" policy at the national and local level. At no point will any New Member (commonly referred to as a "pledge") or a Brother be asked to anything contrary to the conduct of a true gentleman. We stand opposed to any mistreatment of any other human being. Noted speaker Will Keim put it this way: "If you have to ask... it's hazing." "If in doubt, call your advisor/national office. If you won't pick up the phone, you have your answer. Don't B.S. yourself." You can learn more about Theta Chi's view on hazing here. Additional information about the fight against hazing can be found at www.StopHazing.org.
Hazing is taken very seriously by Theta Chi. Other fraternities offer justifications for their actions by describing hazing under any number of guises: tradition, discipline, character-building, loyalty, or commitment and trust. New Members are told that you have to be strong to make it through "Hell Week". Theta Chi has no such "Hell Week". During Theta Chi's week of initiation (I-Week) New Members are never asked to anything that will physically harm them, cause intentional humiliation, detract from their studies, or do anything unbecoming of a gentleman. In addition, I-Week is alcohol-free. There are severe consequences for any Brother who does not follow Theta Chi's policy on Hazing and Alcohol. By receiving a bid to join Theta Chi rest assured that you have already proven yourself as a man of truth, temperance, and tolerance; you will not have to prove yourself by being hazed or drinking alcohol.
