Technical Skills

Most of these skills lend themselves to the Mechanical Engineering major, with a specialization in automotive customization and fabrication, my ultimate career goal. I have had experience modifying internal combustion engines, fabricating metal for automobiles, welding, building mechanical components for a FIRST Robotics robot and designing said components in Autodesk Inventor. Eventually I would like to work for a small company specializing in either aftermarket modifications for high performance automobiles or construction of high performance automobiles. I worked as a consultant for Johnson Control, Inc. (an assembly plant for the seats that go in new Toyotas and Pontiacs) in Livermore, California in the summer of 2007. It was my job to evaluate the efficiency of the plant and its workers as well as provide suitable strategies for improving them. I feel that with my current experience and the skills I will be learning at the University of Pacific will qualify me to do just that.

Communication Skills and Teamwork

In my time with Johnson Control, Inc. I had to make many presentations to my superiors about my findings. These were oral presentations in front of many executives. Despite being only 18 years old and having only a high school diploma, I was able to perform adequately and was applauded by many of the older executives with many years of experience. Prior to this, the only oral presentations I had given were small ones in various high school classes. I also had to write new training material for factory workers while I was working in Livermore. This, in addition to my relatively strong ability to write (based on my passing of the AP English Exam among other things) lead me to believe I can communicate just as effectively in writing as orally.

I was not always a good team player, but my real world experience with Johnson Control's employees taught me to be. I had to interact with different levels of employees ranging from factory workers to managers to executives. This helped me to become a more team-oriented worker.

Professional and Personal Growth

My work at Johnson Control's facility in Livermore really helped to make me more professional. This was my first time working for a large corporation, and it really gave me some insight into what the real world was actually like. I know now that the automotive field is definately where I want to be working after earning my degree. Currently I am pursuing an internship with the San Carlos, California based company Tesla Motors

Addional Personal Information

As you may have noticed I'm a rather large automobile enthusiast. I particularly relish the Ford Mustang, and other American performance cars, though I do have a few foreign favorites as well. I personally own two Ford Mustangs:
