Phi Chapter

Kappa Alpha Theta Mission Statement

Yesterday, today and tomorrow, Kappa Alpha Theta exists to nurture each member throughout her college and alumnae experience and to offer a lifelong opportunity for social, intellectual and moral growth as she meets the higher and broader demands of mature life.
The history of Phi Chapter is a most unusual one. After the establishment of Kappa Alpha Theta January 27, 1870, Phi Chapter was founded in 1889 at the College of the Pacific in San Jose and six charter members were initiated. In 1891, the chapter was resigned at the San Jose campus and the six girls asked to take Phi Chapter to Stanford. Phi was established at Stanford in 1892. In 1944, sororities were banned at Stanford so Phi went inactive and was held by Nationals. Nationals held Phi Chapter until December of 1959 when Alpha Theta Tau at the now University of Pacific in Stockton, decided to become Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta.
