Student Assistant, Summer-Fall 2005
The APSARA (Asian Pacific Self-Development & Residential Association) Digital Library Project is a community-based project in Stockton, CA. The idea for this project came from one of my computer science professor, Professor Doherty, and from one of my superior, Cynthia Hsieh (not my direct supervisor), at work at the University of the Pacific Library.
The goal of this digital library project is to benefit children from disadvantaged refugee population by having educational resources all in one place instead of it being spread all over the internet. This is where my role came in; I was a 'researcher/reviewer'. I go to educational websites and review it. I'll have to determined whether it's suitable for kids or teenagers (age appropriate), how useful it is, easy to navigate, how long it takes to load, etc. I then login to a database (MySQL and PHP based), created by my professor, and entered all these information. I entered these information by checking on the appropriate catagory (strongly agree, agree, average, etc) in a form.
